Aquae Sulis

Last weekend saw 4 of our Regional/National squad attend the Aquae Sulis Grand Prix meet at Hengrove, Bristol. The event attracted tough competition from all over the country including a few Olympians using the event as a warm up before the British Champs next month in Sheffield.

The girls between them produced an impressive 13 PB's as well as 15 medals and made an excellent start to the long course season and their quest to qualify for this summers British Nationals……

Fast Five

Carn Brea & Helston Swimming Club followed up on their successes at the Cornwall Championships this weekend by hosting Cornwall’s only Fastest Five Skins event in recent years. This event brings together first time Gala swimming alongside more experienced teammates for an inspirational and competitive event. Swimmers came from as far afield as Frome, Hatfield & Honiton Swimming Clubs, as well as clubs from across Cornwall.

The Skins event is hotly contested and invites the 6 fastest Individual Medley age group swimmers of the day to compete in an exciting Knockout series of races. The slowest swimmer in each heat is eliminated and pulls the stroke to be swum in the next heat from a hat. This continues until only 2 swimmers remain for a dramatic & exciting Finale.

CBHSC didn’t shy away from this challenge and secured 6 places in the Skins event. Lani Anthoney & Caja Rodda both made the Junior Skin’s final with Caja racing off very strong competition to secure the Junior Girls Champion. Jade Exell & Lauren Prouse made the Senior Girls Final with Lauren triumphantly gaining the 3rd place position. Daniel Lyford and Ben Hallam secured their places in the Senior Boys Final with Ben powering into 3rd place.

Our younger competitors excelled too, making their first outing at a Competitive Gala. It was a very rewarding & exciting day for them as they competed in all 5 races. The nerves were soon left far behind as their confidence & team spirits began to soar. An exciting aquatic future awaits them and we’ll watch their progresses with great interest.

A Big Thank You again goes out to Penzance Leisure Centre who hosted this event and to our loyal band of Officials, Coaches, Team Managers and parent helpers who make this whole day possible.
